Madison Energy Infrastructure Enters Agreement to Acquire NextEra Energy Resources’ Distributed Generation Development Platform and Subset of Operating Solar and Energy Storage Assets

Transformative partnership will expand Madison’s clean energy ecosystem and accelerate delivery of operational value for leading organizations and communities
Tysons Corner, VA – September 3, 2025
Madison Energy Infrastructure (Madison), a leading clean energy infrastructure ecosystem, today announced it has entered into an agreement to acquire NextEra Energy Resources’ distributed generation development platform. The transaction, subject to customary closing conditions, includes an extensive portfolio of operating solar and energy storage assets, a robust pipeline of development projects and customers across 25 states, and an accomplished team of industry professionals.
The acquisition will complement and enhance Madison’s customer-centric approach and ability to provide businesses, public power leaders, and communities with clean energy solutions and services to deliver high-impact results. Madison’s combined portfolio will include over 500 projects and customers from water irrigation districts and wastewater treatment plants to cold storage facilities, retail locations, commercial real estate portfolios, and the industry’s largest roster of K-12 solar schools, among many more.
“Unprecedented load growth, the convergence of digital and energy infrastructure, and an aging power grid are driving the need for high-impact solutions now more than ever,” said Richard Walsh, CEO of Madison. “Our transformative acquisition of NextEra Energy Resources’ distributed generation development platform—and with the continued leadership of EQT—will build on our commitment to deliver an unmatched ecosystem of value to our customers with certainty, speed, and trust.”
“As global power needs continue to accelerate, distributed generation is a critical solution to delivering operational value to commercial and industrial businesses and communities across our economy," said Alex Darden, Partner and Head of EQT’s Infrastructure Advisory Team Americas. “With today's announcement, Madison Energy Infrastructure builds on its industry leadership and will be even better positioned to expand its reach with new customers, partners, and capabilities."
Once the acquisition is complete, Madison will own nearly 1 GW of operating distributed clean energy assets serving hundreds of customers across corporate, industrial, K-12, nonprofit, electric cooperative, and municipal utility sectors nationwide. The combined organization leverages a digital-first foundation—powered by advanced tools and AI-driven products—and a lean, safety-focused team to deliver operational value at scale.
The acquisition will accelerate the momentum of Madison’s breakthrough MEI+ customer program and unlock new markets across the country. The transaction will follow Madison’s prior strategic acquisitions of Pro-Tech Energy Solutions and Sun Tribe Solar and will mark a historic milestone in the clean energy industry.
