The Wall Street Journal published an article this month entitled Pandemic Peril for Renewables Is Buying Opportunity for Heavyweights. The article posited that the pandemic presents an opportunity for the large payer to buy renewable energy assets. Greentech Media had a similar article, Renewables Giants May Get Even Bigger as Crisis Tightens Finance Markets. The author wrote ‘COVID-19 may result in an unexpected buyers’ market for many of the world’s leading wind and solar operators.’We recognize we are a small (but growing!) piece of the industry, but disagree with both publications that this is just an opportune time for the ‘Heavyweights’ and ‘Giants.’ We feel fortunate to have committed capital and trusted financial partners at all levels of the capital stack and agree that their is an uptick of acquisition opportunities during the pandemic.
